Arts

Sree Sankara College, through its arts programs encourages the students to take part in art festivals and kerala university youth festivals, various performances for events, functions etc. The college has consistently pushed its students to participate in cultural events since they are essential to their holistic development.


Sports

Every year, the Department of Physical Education hosts sports competitions. Selected students are then prepared to compete in intercollegiate as well as university levels.

 

NSS


The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit at Sree Sankara College (Unit No.KL-07-103) was officially sanctioned by the University of Kerala in the year 2021, marking the initiation of its dedicated service towards community development and societal welfare. The NSS unit operates with a theme that aligns with the broader objectives of the National Service Scheme. The NSS emphasizes the importance of community engagement, social harmony, and individual development through collective efforts. The NSS unit at Sree Sankara College actively engages in a wide range of activities, including but not limited to blood donation camps, cleanliness drives, awareness campaigns, and skill development programs. These endeavours are designed to instil a sense of civic responsibility and promote the holistic development of both the volunteers and the communities they serve.

By embracing the NSS motto and theme, the unit at Sree Sankara College not only contributes to the welfare of the immediate community but also plays a role in nurturing socially responsible citizens who understand the value of giving back to society. Through its initiatives, the NSS unit becomes a catalyst for positive change and a beacon of inspiration for students committed to making a meaningful impact on the world around them.

The NSS unit of Sree Sankara College, like all NSS units across the nation, adheres to the motto "Not Me, But You." This succinct yet profound statement encapsulates the essence of selfless service and the spirit of volunteerism that drives the NSS initiatives. The motto reflects a commitment to prioritize the needs and well-being of others above personal interests, fostering a sense of responsibility towards the community.

ACTIVITIES CONDUCTED DURING 2023-24

During the period of June 2023 to December 2023, the NSS (National Service Scheme) actively engaged in various impactful activities, fostering community well-being and social responsibility.

1. World Environment Day - 5 June 2023: The NSS unit enthusiastically celebrated World Environment Day by planting trees and organizing a pledge-taking event. The volunteers' active participation showcased their commitment to environmental conservation.

2. National Reading Day - 19 June 2023: In observance of National Reading Day, the NSS organized engaging activities, including Poster Writing Competitions and a Quiz. This initiative aimed to promote literacy and a love for reading among the participants.

3. International Yoga Day - 21 June 2023: On International Yoga Day, the NSS collaborated with the Brahmakumaris organization to celebrate the occasion. The event included a yoga demonstration, conducted by knowledgeable team members, emphasizing the importance of holistic well-being.

4. Independence Day - 15 August 2023: Independence Day was celebrated with fervor, featuring major activities that instilled a sense of patriotism and national pride among the NSS volunteers. The day's events contributed to fostering a spirit of unity and patriotism.

5. Cleaning Campaign at Kadakkavur Railway Station - 1 October 2023: Aligning with the Clean India campaign, the NSS undertook a cleanliness drive at Kadakkavur Railway Station. This initiative demonstrated the NSS unit's commitment to maintaining a clean and hygienic environment in public spaces.

6.Visit to Karunalayam Old Age Home - 2 October 2023: In a heartwarming gesture, the NSS visited Karunalayam Old Age Home in Attingal. The volunteers donated 25 chairs, enhancing the comfort of the elderly residents. The time spent interacting with the inmates reflected the NSS's dedication to social service and community bonding.

7. Garden Making and Cleaning at LP School Thekkinkadu, Nagaroor - 11 October 2023: Continuing their community-focused efforts, the NSS engaged in garden making and cleaning activities at LP School Thekkinkadu, Nagaroor. This project aimed at improving the school environment for the students, fostering a conducive learning atmosphere.

In summary, the NSS activities from June to December 2023 demonstrated a holistic approach to community service, encompassing environmental awareness, education promotion, cleanliness campaigns, and compassionate outreach to the elderly. The NSS unit's active involvement underscores its commitment to social responsibility and community development.

Women's Cell


The Women's Studies Cell is part of the Women’s Development Studies started by the U.G.C. Women’s cell of Sree Sankara College began with the intention of empowering and enabling women to see their own potential and carve out a place for themselves in a cutthroat world. The main objectives of the cell include enhancing self-esteem and self-confidence among women students and staff.

The cell seeks to raise awareness and gives women a forum to express their opinions and experiences about their place in society as well as ideas for self-improvement and empowerment. The college offers a number of programs aimed at raising student awareness of issues pertaining to women through lectures, seminars, awareness programmes and welfare activities. The Cell works to support students' growth by assisting them in resolving both academic and personal issues.

OBJECTIVES:
(i) To highlight the importance of health and hygiene.

(ii) To assert the importance of spiritual, economic, social, racial and gender equality.

(iii) To prevent sexual harassment and to promote general well-being of female students, teaching and non-teaching women staff of the College.

(iv) To safeguard the rights of female students, faculty and staff members.
